Photography is truth

What is a Rose?

Taken from Wikipedia:

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears. There are over a hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing or trailing with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds.

Which did you prefer looking at?

The Wikipedia explanation or the beautiful image of the flower?.I am sure it is the latter.
Not many of us have the patience to sit and read lengthy explanations. In most cases,an image gives a better idea of what is happening or what we are talking about.

When the twin towers were crashed by aircraft, the video footage explained the disaster more profoundly. No amount of words could have justice to the destruction created there. The same with many iconic photographs around the world. Most of the happenings in recent history are etched in our memory in the form of photos we saw.War photos, photos of natural disasters, photos of terrorist attacks.

It applies in personal space also.In arranged marriages in India, first the photo of the bride and the groom are exchanged between the families, before any talks start. Why do we need a photo?Cant we just describe whether the girl/boy is thin/fat,good/bad..whatever.A photo does more talking than the real talking.Same applies with social media profiles too.Be it for building a personal brand or for a job interview,a photo becomes important.

Travel websites usually have a lot of photos. No amount of describing the place is awesome, cool or whatever can do ample justice to it.Upload a photo and people understand how awesome the place is.

Written words leave a lot to the imagination.Images don't.They show what is there.Hence pictures have more impact than a written material.

No wonder that Jean-Luc Godard said,"Photography is truth".
